Before leaving the topic of the Secretary of Health and Human Services, let’s recognize that one of its most important agencies the Centers for Disease Control. So we definitely want to have the best and brightest with high integrity leading that agency, right? Let’s pause that thought.
President Trump has given the US military the unprecedented mission of destroying small watercraft in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific suspected of transporting drugs to the US. To date, our vaunted military has spent about $1 billion blowing up 36 watercraft and killing 126 people. That works out to about $30 million per speed boat and $8 million per dead alleged drug transporter. No doubt, President Trump cares deeply about American citizens who are addicted to opioids. And he is doing his best to help them by killing a few of the people who are couriering drugs to the US on behalf of the drug lords. (Note: only a very small percentage of synthetic opioids are being transported via the sea – but let’s not confuse facts with the image.)
Clearly, there has been a problem – drug overdose deaths skyrocketed during the 21st century. So, why is that?
It is because US doctors began prescribing hundreds of millions of opioid prescriptions which US pharmacies filled and these highly addictive medicines turned millions of Americans, who had never had addiction problems, into opioid addicts. And then, once addicted, these new addicts were no longer able to get prescription opioids, became desperate to obtain opioids on the black market. Ergo, drug cartels, drug boats, etc.
Now, let’s ask ourselves, who are the really bad bad guys here? (1) There are five options: the Americans who got hooked on opioids after taking medicines prescribed by their doctors (2) the doctors who prescribed the medicines that caused their patients to be addicted (3) the pharmacies who filled those prescriptions (4) the drug cartels who stepped forward to supply opioids to the addicted Americans and (5) the people transporting a small percentage of the opioids for the cartels. President Trump obviously thinks Group 5 are the bad bad guys. But common sense tells us that it is the doctors who prescribed millions of opioids to their patients who in time, surely saw the destruction such drugs were doing to their patients.
In Louisiana, one of the doctors who wrote millions of opioid prescriptions to his patients and then filled those prescriptions in pharmacies that he owned was Dr. Ralph Abraham. https://lawandcrime.com/…/report-pharmacies-owned-by…/ Abraham ranked in the top 0.2% of doctors who wrote opioid prescriptions and he was one of the only doctors who owned the pharmacies where the prescriptions he wrote were filled.
Now, if President Trump really wanted to go after people most responsible for the drug overdoses, he would focus on people like Dr. Abraham, right? It is people like Abraham who got millions of Americans addicted to the opioids and created the market for the drug lords. Does President Trump even know who Dr. Abraham is? No doubt, he just appointed him to be the number two person at the Centers for Disease Control. It is one more example of President Trump Making America Great Again.
