Date: May 1992
Main Characters: The Whole Family. (Katherine age 7)
(Written by Coco) This is a story that happened last Sunday about a week ago. David’s mother had invited our family up to Valhalla for a little belated birthday celebration for me (thirty-seven years old). After a wonderful lunch, we all went down to the creek, Sophie included. The creek banks are about twenty-five or thirty feet tall and are mainly red or white clay. The banks are not solid – there are places where big chunks have sluffed off and left large gaps in the banks. I was sitting on the side of the creek with Rob and Sophie when Katherine came up. She leaned over whispered to me almost in an embarrassing way like she was giving a confession. Katherine said, “Mama you know what I used to think when I came here?” “What sweety?” She said, “I used to think that this is where God made all the people cause you see there is all the clay and everything and I used to think that this is where God got clay to make them.”
Date: Fall 1987
Main Characters: Coco, David & Katherine (age 2 1/2)
In the fall of 1987, our family of four (no Rob or Sophie yet) were staying at Valhalla with my parents. Late one afternoon Coco and Katherine went with me to go put out corn for the deer on the back of Valhalla. Katherine wanted to ride in the back of the truck so Coco sat back there with her as I carefully drove from spot to spot where we would stop and pour out the corn on the ground. (We did not have feeders nor hogs back then.) When we got to the last spot on the very back of the property, I stopped to put out the last of the corn. Katherine suddenly jumped up and pointed to the sky where a huge harvest moon was just rising above the tree line. “Yook Mommie! God turned on the moon!”
